A US liquid pint holds 16 US fluid ounces. A US customary cup holds 8 fluid ounces. Since 16 ÷ 8 = 2, two cups make one pint.
The relationship makes measuring flexible: a pint container and two cupfuls represent the same volume when both measures use the US customary definitions.

Common mistake
Check the unit and direction
An Imperial pint is larger than a US pint. The familiar “2 cups in a pint” classroom rule refers to US customary measures.
Remember it
Think of the prefix “bi-” for two: a pint can be pictured as a pair of cups.
